The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan conferred on SSP Azad Khan the award of Tamgha-i-Shuja'at.

 

On 23rd March 2009 SSP Azad Khan Additional Director Special Investigation Group Karachi was conferred with civil award of Tamgha-i-Shuja'at.

On 29th January, 2008, while he posted as SP Landhi Karachi, Special Investigation Unit of Capital City Police Karachi conducted a raid on a hideout of notorious terrorists belonging to the banned group Jandullah. An encounter took place between police and terrorists during which Inspector Asghar Dahri and HC Raja Tariq embraced Shahadat and a terrorist was also killed. The remaining four terrorist escaped under cover of heavy firing. SSP Azad Khan, SP Landhi, arranged nakabandi of his area and spotted the car in which the terrorist were escaping. He demonstrated extraordinary courage and tried to stop the car as a result an encounter took place in which three terrorist were killed and one was caught in injured condition. The terrorists used automatic weapons and hand grenades in the encounter. Mr. Azad Khan was also critically injured and received two bullet injuries.
In recognition of his utmost courage and dedication beyond the call of normal duty, the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan conferred on SSP Azad Khan the award of Tamgha-i-Shuja'at.
